School Advisory Committee
The School Advisory Committee (SAC) is made up of parents, teachers, and community stakeholders who provide input to advise leadership on opportunities to enhance the learning environment here at Hohenfels Elementary School. Serving on a SAC or IAC is a rewarding responsibility that offers the opportunity to contribute to children's education actively. These committees provide advisory input on school policies, administrative procedures, and educational resources. At the same time, final decisions rest with the DoDEA school district superintendent.
2026-2027 SAC Meeting Dates
All meetings will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the school office.
• 1st Quarter: Tuesday, October 20
• 2nd Quarter: Tuesday, December 15
• 3rd Quarter: Tuesday, March 2
• 4th Quarter: Tuesday, April 20

School is off to a great start at HES! We have successfully completed two full weeks of school, including our first week with our PK students. Thank you for your patience and support as we worked through issues with our student information system and registrations.

Principal's Point
Each month, I will share a thought or strategy for parents to consider that may help support their child's educational
journey.
This year, we began the year by talking with students about the "Power of Yet." This concept encourages a growth mindset by adding the word "yet" to things that feel difficult or challenging. We have discussed how failure is not the end of learning, but rather an important part of the learning process.
The idea is simple: changing "I can't do this" to "I can't do this yet" reinforces the belief that abilities can grow through effort, practice, and persistence.
This mindset:
• Encourages perseverance
• Reduces the fear of failure
• Shifts thinking from "I am not capable" to "I am still learning"
• Promotes resilience
• Fosters a lifelong love of learning

Dressing for Inclement Weather
There are days when students go outside for recess even if it is lightly raining, misting, or
sprinkling. Please make sure your child comes to school dressed appropriately for the
weather, as we strive to provide outdoor recess whenever possible. This will become even
more important during the cold and snowy winter months.
Breakfast
Please note that breakfast service begins at 7:55 a.m. Students may enter for breakfast any
time after 7:50 a.m. and should not wait in line with their classes. Please remind your child
to come directly into the building after being dropped off or arriving by bus so they have
enough time to eat. The kitchen closes at 8:10 a.m. and service is typically completed by
8:15 a.m. We do allow a few extra minutes when buses arrive late.
Tardies and Absences
Students cannot learn if they are not in school. Please be aware that an excessive number
of tardies or absences, whether excused or unexcused, may result in a reminder letter
being sent home.
Excused absences include:
• Personal illness
• Medical, dental, or mental health appointments
• Emergency conditions such as fire, flooding, or severe weather
• Religious holidays
• Serious illness or death of an immediate family member
• Other unique family circumstances approved by administration
Please note that family travel is not considered an excused absence.
Students are expected to make up any missed work during extended absences, so they do
not fall behind academically. If you know your child will be absent for three or more school
days, please visit the office to request a pre-planned absence form. This allows teachers
time to prepare materials in advance and helps students return to school more
successfully.

Reminder:
School doors open at 7:55 AM, at which time students may enter the building and proceed to breakfast.
Breakfast is served from 7:55 AM to 8:10 AM. Students who arrive after 8:10 AM will not be able to receive breakfast, as service concludes promptly at that time.
We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring students arrive on time to take full advantage of this service.
