On Monday, October 6, students at Hohenfels Elementary School received a special visit from the USAG Bavaria Fire and Rescue team as part of Fire Safety Week. The event offered students a an opportunity to interact and learn about fire prevention and emergency response through engaging demonstrations and interactive lessons.

Students met with local fire inspectors who showcased the tools and techniques used in real-life rescue operations and to successfully protect and rescue those in need. The educational experience extended beyond safety tips, incorporating academic skills such as estimation, volume, measurement, and science concepts related to fire behavior and rescue technology.

A major highlight of the visit was “Fiona,” the Airfield Fire Rescue vehicle, which captivated students with its size and capabilities. Red Cross volunteers also joined the event, sharing important fire safety information and reinforcing the importance of preparedness.

“It was really cool to see the tools they use. I like the Jaws of Life best,” said Isaac, a fourth-grade student.

The visit from the Hohenfels Fire and Rescue unit and the Red Cross reflects the strong partnership between the school and the community. Events like these not only educate but also inspire students by connecting classroom learning with real-world applications.
